The region’s own old-fashioned jazz social dancing group has announced the inaugural Boogie Down South Festival to be held from October 26 to October 29.
The festival will offer dance workshops during the day, featuring two of the rising stars of the Lindy Hop scene, South Korean dancers Michelle Lee and Jung-Pil Choi.
Participants will then have the chance to show off their dance skills at social dancing events in the evenings at venues around the region.
Dance teacher Nadia Haskell said the festival was a great excuse to experience the region as well as enjoying some quality local music.
“It’s a great chance to dance at some fantastic venues throughout the region,” she said.
“There’s nothing better than dancing in a great local venue to a great local band.
“The main focus is social dancing, but we’re including the added bonus of workshops with a couple of fantastic international teachers.”
Ms Haskell said the swing dancing scene had “taken off” in the region over the last two years, with weekly classes in Cowaramup and Margaret River growing in popularity as more dancers joined the fun.
Social dances are held every 5 to 6 weeks featuring music from talented local players.
