Drivers have been warned that double demerit points will be enforced on WA roads across the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
The double penalties, which run from midnight on Thursday, September 21, to midnight on Monday, September 25, apply to mobile phone, speeding, seatbelt, red light and drink and drug driving offences.
Acting Road Safety Commissioner Iain Cameron urged drivers to reduce the risk of road trauma on WA roads.
“The Queen’s Birthday weekend is a busy time on roads right across the state,” said Mr Cameron.
“We will see an increase in traffic volume, particularly on regional roads, as people make their way to holiday spots for the school holidays, or to Perth for the Royal Show, or just a family outing to enjoy the spring weather.
“I urge drivers to be patient, take regular breaks to recharge, put the phone away and slow down, because we all have a part to play in saving lives on our roads.”
