Busselton’s Senior Citizen Centre is set to expand thanks to funding from the City of Busselton.
The city's representative on the board, councillor Rob Bennett, said the proposed expansion was good news for those who utilised the centre.
"It had not been proposed to do it for a number of years, however the city came up with a funding proposal after meeting with the board which will enable work to start as early as next financial year," he said.
"The centre was starting to be restricted in its capacity to meet membership requirements, so this will not only ease the pressure but allow membership to grow even further.
"Busselton is fortunate to have such a centre, which not only provides a social and recreational facility for those getting on in age but also serves an important role in providing meals on wheels to the community."
The Senior Citizens Centre board member Geoffrey Newport said the expansion would allow more people to get involved with the centre and offer more activities.
The centre currently has 800 members and they are hoping to have 1000 in the coming years..
“Nearly 25 per cent of aged people come here, it will give us much more room and have many more people involved,” he said.
“The expansion will allow us to do more low noise activities like pilates, yoga, tai chi and those sorts of things.
