Today's Lothario Richard Wilkins goes public with new relationship

Channel Nine's notoriously private Today star Richard Wilkins has gone public with his new relationship.

The New Zealand-born, father-of-five, 63, stepped out with Virginia Burmeister on his arm for the opening night of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at Sydney's Lyric Theatre on Saturday night.

A party goer, who asked not to be named, told Fairfax Media: "They came together and they left together.

"She didn't leave his side all night but they were acting a bit coy about having their picture taken together."

Once the cameras were out of sight, the pair seemed more at ease and were spotted holding hands and mingling with guests.

It's believed they have been getting to know each other out of paparazzi's sights in North Sydney with Wilkins based in Cremorne and Burmeister in Manly.

Thanks to his bouffant, blond locks and 6ft 2in stature, Wilkins is known as a Lothario on the Sydney dating scene with a list of well-known exes longer than his arm.

Married three times, he has a daughter with fashion designer Collette Dinnigan, was engaged to actor Rebecca Naso and once two-timed actor Rebecca Gibney.

He has also been linked with Eva Mendes (now married to Ryan Gosling), actor Brooke Shields, former game show hostess Ann-Maree Cooksley, actor Tottie Goldsmith (Olivia Newton-John's niece), former Miss Australia Caroline Lumley and The Block's Suzi Taylor.

A representative for Wilkins said they would not be commenting on his new relationship.

Fairfax Media has also asked Virginia Burmeister for comment.
