Dunsborough is the main focus for City of Busselton council nominee Jo Barrett-Lennard who feels the council needs someone on the ground in the town.
The candidate said she would be a voice for Dunsborough and was running for council, not for herself, but for people in the community.
Her priorities for the town include doing something about the traffic issues and to see progress on the foreshore cafe.
“I want to be an advocate for all of that - the people of Dunsborough do not feel as though they are being heard – so if they could have someone in town with them and for them it would help,” she said.
The Puma Energy situation, Ms Barrett-Lennard said, should never have got out of hand and should be located near the light industrial area.
“One of the issues was zoning, if they had thought about it and changed the zoning back then this whole thing could have been avoided saving a lot of money and grief,” she said.
“All this over a piece of legislation that could have been changed, it is frustrating.”
Ms Barrett-Lennard said the perception in Dunsborough was that everything happened in Busselton, such as the foreshore redevelopment, while the Dunsborough foreshore cafe got the can.
“Busselton’s foreshore and streets are being fixed up while nothing is being done in Dunsborough, they want it and they are being vocal about it but they do not feel like they are being heard,” she said.
“That is something I want to make happen for them.”
Gifford Road near the Dunsborough Primary School was another issue Ms Barrett-Lennard would like to see prioritised because it was becoming unsafe for students.
She would like to see a cross-walk, lolly-pop lay or lights installed.
“There is an issue there and we need to work that out,” she said.
“Being slightly younger than some of the people on council, there are different sets of experiences and a different sort of ideals.”
