Homegrown reality TV is set to get a whole lot trashier, with Channels Nine and Ten to produce local versions of two of the world's most controversial reality shows.
Ten has commissioned an Australian adaptation of the US hit Bachelor In Paradise, set to air in 2018.
The Bachelor spinoff - which sees heroes, villains and infamous castoffs from past seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette cavorting on a tropical island - will be a short-run series, hosted by Osher Gunsberg.
Ten's chief content officer Beverley McGarvey called the show a "perfect complement to, and extension of" the main series.
"It will give viewers everything they love about The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, including familiar faces, spectacular dates, explosive rose ceremonies, drama, romance, adventure and, of course, love," McGarvey said in a statement.
While the cast is yet to be announced, memorable standouts including Nikki Gogan and Keira McGuire, both castoffs from Richie Strahan's season, are already rumoured to be involved.
Not to be outdone, Nine is reportedly planning a local version of the UK reality shagfest Love Island.
The series, which sees 12 exhibitionists relocated to an island resort for lusty purposes, is being produced by ITV Australia (I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, The Chase), according to The Daily Telegraph.
Both shows have proven controversial hits with viewers overseas.
Bachelor In Paradise, which just wrapped its fourth season in the US, was recently embroiled in a scandal that saw filming temporarily halted after allegations of sexual misconduct between two contestants emerged from set.
The allegations were eventually dismissed with both contestants, Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson, openly discussing the drama during the show's final reunion episode last month.
The headlines-garnering season earned the show its highest ratings ever, with 5.5 million viewers tuning into its mid-season peak.
Love Island, which airs locally on 9Life, was investigated by the UK government's media watchdog Ofcom during its second season last year, after a scene showing two contestants having sex in front of their housemates earned complaints from viewers.
The series was cleared of breaching the watchdog's rules, as the shots were deemed "brief and relatively indistinct".
Another contestant in the same season, Zara Holland, had her crown as Miss Great Britain revoked after she was also shown having sex with a partner on the show.
This year's season drew UK broadcaster ITV2 its highest ratings in its history, with 2.43 million viewers watching the third season finale in July.
