Evans & Tate Karridale brings home SA wine award

The region’s chardonnay keeps on making the nation smile with Evans and Tate’s 2015 Karridale picking up the latest award at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show.

Evans and Tate senior wine maker Matthew Byrne said a number of chardonnays from the Margaret River region were picking up a string of awards around the nation.

“The Margie’s chardys are on a roll,” he said.

Quality and flavour of the fruit from the region were the main reasons Mr Byrne said the chardonnays were proving to be winners at wine awards.

“I do quite a bit of judging as well and when you come across Margaret River chardonnays among other regions you know because they just have flavour, flavour, flavour.”

Mr Byrne said while the chardonnays from the region all had different styles they had a signature flavour which was unique to the area.

The award winning Karridale was made from fruit grown at Bridgelands, a block which he said produced amazing fruit.

“We make a pretty unique wine and the Karridale was up against 2500 wines at Royal Adelaide, not only is it a  good wine but at this level it has to show a certain style and have character as well,” he said.

“When you put it up against the world’s best, we are up there in the mix as well, it is really fun to make and they evolve in every bottle as well.”
