Paris Newman is no ordinary young athlete.

The 15 year old Busselton local has been selected to represent the Western Australia State School girls 15's Netball at the Pacific Games in Adelaide.

The Pacific School Games will see students aged between 10 – 19 years from at least 15 countries compete this December.

The games provides opportunities for around 4000 school-aged students to participate in 11 different sports at the highest level.

Miss Newman is very excited to be playing at a state level.

“I have been playing netball for seven years, I have always enjoyed playing sport, so it is nice to be recognised and get to play at a higher level,” she said.

Miss Newman said she grew up competing with her two older brothers, always trying to push herself to be the best.

Miss Newman said she enjoys netball as it was a real team sport that focuses on cooperation.

“I did play basketball for a while but I decided to stay with netball because you really have to work as a team to win.

“I like that you get to work with other people, the multiple positions and how different each game can be.”

Miss Newman said the games would be challenging.

“It will be a bit different to other competitions I’ve done, it will definitely be more physically and mentally challenging but I am really looking forward to it.

“I have met some of the other girls and they are all really nice and I am looking forward to challenging myself and improving my skills.”

Miss Newman said she would like to thank the Busselton netball association for helping her develop her skills in such a fun and inclusive environment.

Miss Newman and her family are currently fundraising to help get her over to the games.
