Women in Busselton are being urged to help share the dignity with women less fortunate and donate a handbag full of essential items we all use day-to-day.
Share the Dignity is an Australian charity which hopes to make a real difference to homeless women and victims of domestic violence.
The organisation collects personal hygiene products every year for women have experienced homelessness and poverty.
To make a donation to It’s in the Bag, women are asked to donate a handbag filled with a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, pads, tampons, deodorant and soap and drop it off to the Pepi Cafe on Roe Street in Busselton.
On Saturday, November 4 the community are invited to attend the Pepi Cafe and help makeup the bags which will go to a collection point and be given to women living in a refuge or shelter around Australia.
South West Women’s Health educator Anne Mackay said she sees a lot of women who were at a time in their life when they had nothing.
“I see so many women who have broken up with their husband and they are now living in a little dingy room and have nothing,” she said.
“It is not just one person it’s affecting, we all know someone.
“The bags will be filled with anything you would want in your own handbag and people can donate anything they would like to have in their own handbag.”
The group are asking for people to donate “nice” handbags that you would use yourself, and to avoid donating hotel-sized shampoos or soap.
