THE 2017 season finished with the Busselton Magpies presentations which were held at the City of Busselton's Udulap Room with 260 people attending the black tie event.
The following netball awards were presented.
League Team Most Valuable Player: Maia Kahurangi Bratton; Runner-up MVP: Tamara Thornley; Coaches’ Awards: Ritto Ritson.
Reserves Team MVPs: Matilda Cann and Meg Bolton; Coaches’ Awards: Yasmin Riley and Olivia Haslam.
18’s Team MVP: Mia Pethybridge; Runner-up MVP: Charlie Allen; Coaches’ Award: Imogen Milner.
As the Magpies celebrated 10 years of competing in the SWNFL the Inaugural Club Person of the Year was awarded to Tash O'Neill in recognition of her commitment and contribution to the Magpies Club.
She has been involved since its inception playing in multiple premiership teams, coached and is the current coordinator.
Emma Borinelli, Rennie Sansom and Chantelle Milner were also acknowledged with their involvement in the club having all played for many years including multiple premiership teams.
While at the recent SW Regional presentations the Busselton Magpies received the 2017 SWNFL Champion Club award which highlighted the successful season the club had with the League team finishing minor premiers and going on to win the grand final against the HBL Lions.
The Reserves bowed out after progressing to the semi finals after a courageous effort against the Harvey Bulls who went on to win the division and the young 18’s team finished fifth as they missed out on making the top four by percentage.
It was an extremely closely contested competition among the nine teams from the South West.
The club has many talented young players which included seven South West Jets players: Claire Jennings, Belle Hancock, Matilda Cann, Brooke Gibson, Charlie Allen with State representative Harmony Sutherland and a current Junior Australian representative Riley Culnane, Busselton Netball Association Development players and an impressive coaching lineup which includes SW Academy coaches Danielle Cann and Kara Pethybridge along with head coach Erin Culnane who is the South West Jets League coach in the Western Australian Netball League.
The season now concludes with everyone sure to enjoy the break. Trials will be held on January 31 and then it will be straight into pre-season training.
