Aldi’s Busselton store opened with hundreds of shoppers packing the car park to be the first customers through the doors on Wednesday morning.
The store is part of the Power Centre development located on West Street, which will see Kmart open its doors in June next year.
Hot items to walk through the doors at the store opening were jukeboxes, camping gear and portable toilets.
The aisles were stocked with plenty of bargains including everything from fresh produce, grocery items and household goods.
The store was officially opened by Forrest MP Nola Marino and City of Busselton mayor Grant Henley who welcomed customers as they made their way through the door.
Ms Marino said she was pleased to open the store and that the opening was well supported by local shoppers.
“It will employee local people too, which will also grow over time,” she said.
Mr Henley said it has been a long process to see the development get to where it is today and the Aldi store would offer a degree of choice for shoppers in Busselton.
“Aldi is famous for sourcing local produce at a reasonable price, while it doesn’t have the same variety as some of the major brands it certainly is a different choice.
“It is great to see it has already attracted people from outside of Busselton come into town and do their shopping and hopefully do some more shopping around town while they are here.”
The developer’s of the Power Centre, Erceg Management were at the opening with retail leasing executive Anthony Sorgiovanni saying they were overwhelmed and so happy to help Aldi come to Busselton.
“It is great to hear its employing local people - the store manager is from Dunsborough - Aldi will be a great contributor to the South West,” he said.
“We have the medical centre next door to Aldi which opened today as well and there are plans for a pharmacy and Connect Hearing that will open later this month.
“Kmart is looking for June next year and there will be food operators to compliment the store, we are also working on other areas of the site to try and lock in some other additions for Busselton.”
