Lacrosse Busselton | Norther Thunder verse Alkimos Pirates

Saturday,  November 11 marked the first of hopefully many lacrosse games in Busselton.

Thirty-one players took to the field in a friendly match that proved to be well received by all. The game was of high standard, well spirited and fun was had by all who participated.

The Busselton Hockley Stadium hosted the event where the small but enthusiastic crowd was treated something new and exciting.

The “Northern Thunder” under 15’s team who were recent grand finalists in the National Lacrosse Tournament took on the newly formed NLacrosse Club and as expected, it turned out to be a battle of youth verse experience.

The “Northern Thunder” jumped out of the blocks early to take a three-nil lead early in the first quarter.

Things were looking grim for the “Pirates” until late in the first when they steadied the ship with the clubs inaugural president and Founder Simon Danby slotted one home.

The second was a more even affair with both sides scoring two leaving a half time score of 5-3 to the Thunder.

During the second quarter the game holted at 11am. A mark of respect was shown for those who had fallen in battle for the ANZACs and a line of sportsman held a minutes silence for Remembrance Day.

The third and fourth quarters were a see sawing battle and there were moments when both teams seemed to have the momentum. In the end though, youth won out and the “Northern Thunder” ran out 10 – 7 victors.

The “Alkimos Pirates” in particular are very keen to return to Busselton soon and no doubt many of the other Perth clubs will follow.

Lacrosse will be back in town and hopefully it will be sooner than later.

Keep an eye on the Busselton Dunsborough Mail and on social media for details for the next game as well as potential come a try days in the new year.
