BUSSELTON is set to host two school triathlon events, in early April, including a national event.
The Australian School Sport Triathlon will run from 7-9.30am on Wednesday, April 4 and will be followed by the South West school’s triathlon from 10am-1pm.
Both events will be conducted on the Busselton foreshore, near Barnard Park, with the swim starting at the Busselton Jetty.
It includes age groups from Year 7-12, boys and girls events, individual, novice and team events.
While there aren’t any locals competing in the national event, MacKillop Catholic College will put out a strong team for the South West event.
A spokesperson from MacKillop said there were 61 students from the school lined up to compete in the event.
“There will be 16 teams of three plus 13 individual competitors,” they said.
South West School Sport regional coordinator Tracy Cameron said holding the events in Busselton would be a boost for young local triathletes.
“It’s a great chance for South West competitors to see elite competitors from all over Australia,” she said.
