West Busselton assault accused in psychiatric care

A 34-year-old man has been placed into psychiatric care following the assault on a woman in West Busselton last month.

Jason Salat, from Waterman’s Bay appeared in Busselton Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

Salat has been in psychiatric care after he attacked a 29-year-old woman in the West Busselton Corner Store on April 6.

He also stole items amounting to $67.30 from the shop before leaving.

Salat’s legal representative spoke for him on the day and told the court Salat was admitted to a psychiatric ward in Bunbury Hospital after he committed the offence.

The legal representative also told the court Salat had previously faced charges for arson in Meekatharra.

It was Salat’s first appearance on the charges. He will re-appear on June 12.
