A Busselton fisherman will have to wait a week to find out if he broke any records landing a 96 kilogram broadbill swordfish.
Tien Nguyen and Doug Robertson headed 3000 meters off the Walpole coast in search of the large fish.
Mr Nguyen said they hit the water at 4pm on Monday afternoon and hooked onto the fish at 5am the next morning.
It took Mr Nguyen an hour to reel in the swordfish landing him around 6am on Tuesday morning.
Mr Nguyen said he was “pretty pumped” and it was the first time he had caught a fish like this off the South West coast.
The boys will have to wait a week or so to find out if they have broken any records for landing the fish with a 37 kg line.
The current state record is held by Tony Martinan from 1993 who caught a fish weighing 40 kg in the Rottnest Trench with a 37 kg line.
