BUSSELTON born Olympian Taylor Worth is on his way to Rio to compete in his second Olympic Games and will represent Australia in archery.
Worth who grew up in Margaret River said he has put his life on hold to compete at the games which was the pinnacle of his sport.
“To represent your country at the biggest sporting event in the world, well there are no words or emotions to describe that feeling,” he said.
At the London Olympics, Worth finished ninth and will compete against 64 of the world’s best athletes at Rio.
He qualified Australia the quota spot for the team event along with fellow archer Alec Potts after they finished eighth at the 2015 World Championships in Copenhagen against 250 competitors.
Worth said Rio will be his second go round at the Olympics and this time he would not be so overwhelmed by the other athletes, security and procedures that take place on the grounds.
“I will be able to focus on my responsibility at the games,” he said.
“My biggest challenge is myself and being able to control my emotions and to control everything that will affect me that is within my control, and deal with every mishap when things do not go right to the best of my ability.”
Worth said he discovered archery in 2001 when he was growing up and enjoyed the personal and individual challenge of the sport.
“I played just about every sport under the sun growing up as a child,” he said.
“With archery I didn’t have to rely on anyone else it was just me.”
