It was almost a white Christmas in central Tasmania this week as snow was reported to be falling across the Central Plateau.
The Great Lake Hotel, in Miena, posted a Facebook video of snow falling gently across the ground on Saturday afternoon, while in Launceston cooler showers broke up a blustery day.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s weather forecast for Saturday said snow was likely to fall above 700 metres, joining a high chance of showers in the west with temperatures between 9 and 15C.
The chance of snow continues through Sunday with snow predicted above 900 metres, with temperatures dipping down to -1C in Liawenee on Sunday.
The BOM reported the white weekend was caused by a cold front with an associated low deepening to the south as it moved across the state.
Cold temperatures are expected to continue across the weekend in the Central Plateau region toward Tuesday morning.
