The Busselton Tennis Club will send a team to Dunsborough on Thursday to compete in the second round of the Whittaker Challenge Series.
Andrew O’Neill, Doug Hutchison, Tony Crolla, Guido Ghedina, Trevor Holm, Fred La Rose and Grayden Clack will aim to back-up their emphatic win over Dunsborough in the first tie played in Busselton in December.
Dunsborough Tennis Club have bolstered their team with two ‘A Graders’ in Pat Mulhearn and Greg Banfield in the hope of reversing the 9 sets to 3 first round result.
The winning team will have their club’s name engraved on the trophy as first winners of what is expected to be an annual event named in honour of David Whittaker, a past member of both clubs.
Andrew O’Neill named in the Whittaker Challenge team took out the the club's 2017 Men’s Handicap Singles title with a tight tie breaker win 6-5 (7-5) over John McCallum.
The defeated semi-finalists where Clifford Hoult and Alex Meares.
Sixteen players entered the competition played last Saturday, February 11 in the season’s unusually cool overcast conditions.
