Collie Eagles league coach Clint Swallow praised his team after their 14.11.95 to 5.6.36 victory over the Harvey Bulls on Saturday.
Swallow, talking to the Mail after the match, said producing sacrifice team football and playing to the team rules led to the result.
“I was a little bit concerned at the start with how we prepared but the boys came out and played some terrific football so it argues well for the season,” he said.
He said the team will work on goal kicking, moving the ball in quicker and stoppages in training and the following matches.
Swallow said next weekend’s match against Carey Park looks set to be a tight contest.
“It will be an interesting contest, Carey Park will be super quick and it’s always hard to win down at Kelly Park so we’ll certainly go down there with the utmost respect for them and hopefully we’ll put on a good display,” he said.
Harvey Bulls league coach Paul Fimmano said he was disappointed but took away some positives from the performance.
“A lot of our boys that hadn’t played before played together and there was a lot of young kids that did really well,” he said.
Fimmano said they will focus on ball skills and team coordination in the future.
The side takes on Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at home in the Harvey Fresh Cup on Sunday, April 23.
