THE rain held off for a great game in the Under 16 Division 2 on Saturday.
The first quarter was low scoring with tight defence holding the Aces Diamonds to three goals – equal with the Vasse Magpies. Vasse started well in the second quarter but shooters Brianna Haunold and Jessica Brindley were unlucky with some of their shots resulting in a number of near misses.
Aces shooter, Maria Toovey played a stellar game with consistent shooting over four quarters. She was well supported by Isla Trovato and together they put seven goals on the board for Aces in the second quarter.
Emily Hand worked hard for the Magpies to prevent damage in defence but the Magpies were let down by their footwork in centre court. A number of turnovers prevented the shooters from getting the ball into their forward circle resulting in a third quarter six goals to Aces and only one to the Magpies.
Charley Morrant played a strong game for Aces despite running through the centre without a break for the full four quarters. Her intercepts and passing were exceptional and hard for the Magpies to counter despite numerous rotations by the Magpies. The final score was Magpies 11 to Aces 20.
Next week the Magpies play the Dodgers Destructors and the Aces play Dodgers Dynamos.
