Registrations for the 2017 Chevron City to Surf for Activ in Busselton have opened and willing participants can choose from a four kilometre walk, run or wheelchair, a 10 km walk or run, a half marathon or a marathon.
Individual participants and teams also have the option of completing the entire state series which will be held at various locations throughout WA, which also include Albany, Geraldton and Karratha.
As the Activ Foundation’s flagship fundraising event, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ has grown to become Perth’s premier community sporting event, attracting up to 50,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair competitors each year from Western Australia, interstate and around the globe.
Activ is the largest disability service organisation in WA and has been delivering services for the disability community and their families for over 65 years.
Activ chief executive officer Danielle Newport said the organisation was proud to once again be staging an iconic and much-loved community sporting event known worldwide for its safe and picturesque course.
Ms Newport said the event held a special place in the heart of the WA community and they were delighted by the generous support it continued to receive.
“Anyone who has been involved in the event knows first-hand the enthusiasm and community spirit of participants that has made the Chevron City to Surf one of our State’s most eagerly anticipated sporting events for more than four decades.” she said.
“The Chevron City to Surf for Activ has always prided itself on being an event that is open and accessible to everyone, and that you don’t need to be a serious athlete to take part.
“Whether you want to run, walk, roll, volunteer, fundraise or cheer, we’re encouraging everyone to go the distance with us this year and help to create history once again.”
This year the Activ All Stars team will again complete the entire series, touring WA over five weekends to participate in each event.
The team of Activ All Stars is made up of a selection of Activ ‘ambassadors’ who live with disability and have a long association with the organisation.
With the option to fundraise for any chosen charity, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ series also raises much-needed funds for the Activ Foundation which provides vital services and support in the areas of case management, employment, recreation services and accommodation for people living with disability and their families.
