Thirteen-year old Dennis Dixon will compete at sailing in the Tasar World Championships in Japan next month.
The Geographe Bay Yacht Club sailor will be the youngest competitor at the event.
In Year 7 at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, Dennis has been sailing since he was eight years old but only started sailing in tasars, a two-person fiberglass sailing dinghy, this year.
After coming fourth at the state competition in March, he was asked by a very competitive Australian skipper to be part of his crew.
They will represent Australia in the boat ‘Critical Path’.
Dennis said it will be his first time visiting Japan and believes it will be a “good experience”.
“It will be good fun to race against older competitors. I want to continue competing at more World Championships and eventually skipper,” he said.
“Sailing is big in our family. My older sister is racing with my dad at Worlds, so I’ll have to compete against them.”
Dennis will be among 33 other boats from Australia competing against a total of 88 tasars from across the globe.
The Tasar Worlds Championships 2017 will be held from July 30 to August 6 in Gamagori, Japan.
