Emergency services have managed to free two people who were trapped inside the wreckage of a light plane after it stalled upon landing and crashed into bushes at Caloundra Airport on Saturday morning.
Crews were called about 11.45am after the plane was believed to have stalled, flipped and come to a halt upside-down beyond the runway.
Two people were initially trapped, but firefighters managed to free one about 12.15pm and the other, understood to be the pilot, just after 1pm.
Paramedics were treating four patients in total. A man and woman who escaped the wreckage suffered only minor injuries.
But the two people who were trapped suffered serious injuries. One was taken to hospital by ambulance in an unknown condition, and the other was airlifted by the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Helicopter to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition.
Damien Wills, whose company GoFly Aviation is based at the airport, said the plane involved was a private aircraft which had not come from the airport.
He added that the airport had been closed in the aftermath, as the crash scene was surrounded by emergency services.
