The Margaret River Boardriders Club claimed victory last week at WA's longest running surfing event, The Surf Boardroom Surf League.
Margaret River faced clubs from Geraldton, Two Rocks, Trigg Point, Scarborough, Contacio, City Beach, Yallingup and Cowaramup Bay with six of their best surfers in tow.
Preliminary heats saw Cow Bay dominate in their first-ever Surf League event while the semi finals had Margaret River, City Beach, Geraldton and Contacio battling and Yallingup, Trigg Point, Cow Bay and Scarborough contesting a spot in the finals.
After the two 90-minute finals it was Margaret River, Yallingup, Geraldton and Cow Bay who qualified for the grand final. The 2017 event made history, with no metropolitan clubs represented in the final. For the first time it would be an all regional club match up for the major prize.
Margaret River surfed a strong and consistent final, posting a combined team total of 85.89 for the win.
Under five points separated second, third and fourth position, Yallingup posting the next best score (73.65) to settle for a second place finish ahead of Geraldton (70.93) in third and Cow Bay (69.34) in fourth.
