Former City of Busselton councillor Jenny Green is vying for her second term on council after missing out on retaining her seat by 0.5 per cent in the 2015 election.
Ms Green was a councillor when the shire became a city and said, with that councillors had to become more accountable to the community.
It was then Ms Green deferred her profession so she could give her role as a councillor, her all, she joined a number of committees and engaged with people on council matters so she was well informed on issues.
“Councillors need to be well informed on all issues because you will be questioned by members of the community,” she said.
“You will look fairly ridiculous if you say, well I really do not know and keep on saying that same mantra.”
Ms Green said being well informed on issues required a lot of reading and if she felt the community needed more information or felt uncomfortable about an issue she would do research before bringing it to a debate.
While Ms Green missed her former role as a councillor she has stayed involved in activities which replicated what she would have done on council.
She stayed on the board of Forrest Personnel an organisation which helps people with disabilities find employment and remained on the committee for the Busselton-Sugito Sister City Association.
“I also meet up with councillors to find out what is happening in the community and have been attending council over the last few months to bring myself up to speed, just in case,” she said.
“If I am elected at least I can walk into council and know what is happening in the community.”
Ms Green said one of the important considerations for a councillor was the budget - and while not every project could be approved - she supported projects spread across different demographics such as the skate park and senior citizens centre.
