The surf was pumping at Indjidup for the Yallingup Boardriders 18th Single Fin Theory event on Saturday.
Hundreds of spectators braved the cold and blustery conditions to see retired former pro surfer Taj Burrow claim his first SFT title.
Contestants must ride vintage single fin boards that were shaped before 1984, and Taj surfed the old boards like only he could.
The final was held in good 3-4 foot surf, and Taj beat Marty Chandler, Tim Hawken and Paul ‘Antman’ Paterson in the final to claim victory.
Taj won a trip to Queensland to compete in the Burleigh Boardriders Single Fin event and although the competition will be fierce, Taj would have to start as one of the favourites for that title also.
The driving forces which have seen the SFT event go from strength to strength are Chris ‘Chapstar’ Chapman, Aaron ‘Tony’ Carr and Antman.
Their tireless work has seen the event get bigger and better each year as the event's 20th anniversary approaches.
The Yallingup Boardriders are continually blown away by the strong community and local business support for the SFT event.
This year local businesses donated approximately $10,000 dollars worth of prizes. The prize presentations were held at Caves House, where each and every contestant were awarded for their efforts with the prize donations, using a lucky dip method.
The family-friendly annual event was another great success thanks to the hard work, support and generosity of many, and the spirit of the competitors.
