The Geographe Bay Yacht Club held their opening ceremony to signify the new sailing season with excellent weather conditions on Saturday.
The new club patron, Vasse MP Libby Mettam had the honour of officially announcing the 2017-2018 season open, which was followed by the first race and the famous sail-by.
GBYC junior coach Kevin Rose said this year the club had the biggest fleet of junior sailors ever, a fact he was very proud of.
For the junior sailors it will be a season to remember – their new training centre is almost complete – which will give them brand new state of the art facilities.
The juniors sailed spectacularly with first place going to Pineapple Monday sailed by Ollie Roodhouse, second place went to Bunyip 2 sailed by Kiarra Sims, and third place went to Finn Manning sailing Game Over.
In the open division, first place went to Millennium Falcon skippered by Ben Roodhouse, in second place was Unleashed, and in third place was Amber Dreams skippered by Snow.
This Sunday, GBYC will hold a ‘try sailing day’ from 9am, everyone is welcome to come by and give sailing a go with experienced sailors on hand to take you out on the water.
