The Busselton Swimming Club members Darryl Kelly, Amber Bee and Angus Johnston-Walker were caught on camera taking advantage of the sunshine and getting in a quick beach session as part of their preparation for the upcoming open water swimming season.
Darryl, Captain of the Busselton Masters says their growing membership, currently topped at 60 will have a good representation of Masters members swimming again this year at both the Busselton Open Water Swim and the Jetty Swim next February.
The Masters are a growing group within the Busselton Swimming Club, active in both the pool and the ocean as well as providing much need volunteer hours to assist with fund raising for the club.
Amber Bee having swum as a teenager has recently returned to the sport and whilst swimming with the Master’s group has also turned her hand to coaching and will have a fair few of her young squad participating in both the Busselton Open Water Swim and the Jetty Swim, both as individuals and teams.
Development Squad member Angus Johnston-Walker is keen to tackle both events again this season. Having won his category in the Busselton Open Water Swim last year and the under 15 Age Group at the Busselton Jetty Swim in 2017, Angus, a surf club participant at heart, is keen to try his hand at the longer distance and take on some of the seasoned open water swimmers this year.
Busselton Swimming Club is gearing up for the summer season for both pool swimmers and open water swimmers with a number of events and clinics on the calendar as well as some spaces in squads for children and Masters swimmers.
The Club is running a Dive Right In series on Wednesday evenings over a four week period, commencing in early November. Dive Right In is aimed at primary school children aged 8 – 12 years with a minimum Stage 7 who are keen to improve their swimming whether it be some early practice for the summer swimming carnivals, to improve their technique, dives and or turns or just wanting to get fit for summer.
The club is also hosting a Splash and Dash Swim meet on 18 November at the GLC. This is an entry level swim carnival for novice swimmers aged 6 – 13 years. There are 25m and 50m races as well as novelty events, music, raffles and giveaways.
