Dunsborough crash: Driver charged with careless driving

A 29-year-old Italian woman with no fixed address faced Busselton Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 24 as a result of a crash in Dunsborough on Sunday, October 22.

Laura Raviscioni was initially charged with careless driving causing bodily harm, however the prosecution wished to upgrade the charge on Tuesday to grievous bodily harm as a result of new medical evidence.

Ms Raviscioni initially faced the court representing herself, when Magistrate Brian Mahon said she would need an interpreter for the hearing and any further appearances.

“This is a very serious matter which you will need time to receive legal advice you can soundly understand,” Mr Mahon said.

An interpreter was then provided for Ms Raviscioni from WA Interpreters.

It is alleged that around 12:50am on Sunday, the woman was driving a Toyota campervan north along Cape Naturaliste Road, where she approached the intersection of Marri Drive and then collided with a motorcycle.

The rider of the motorcycle, a woman in her 70s from Busselton, received serious injuries and was taken to RPH by the RAC Rescue helicopter.

The matter was adjourned until November 7, with Magistrate Mahon stating both Ms Raviscioni needed time receive proper legal advice and the prosecution needed time to receive this new medical evidence.

Personal bail was extended and Ms Raviscioni surrendered her passport to the court.
