The 36th Margaret River Classic was held last weekend in some fun sized surf at the legendary main break with local Yallingup's surfers putting in strong performances in foreign territory. The swell magnet had some perfectly groomed lefts and rights for everyone to rip into all weekend with summer-like conditions.
In the Blue Ribbon Open men's division, an on fire Jake Patterson carved into the final and came in second place to local ripper Dave Delroy-Carr who took first place.
Patterson also backed up his form with a first place in the Over 40's division with a win over fellow Yallingup rider Sam Hanson with local Andrew Sheridan coming in third place.
The Open Women’s was won by local Mia McCarthy who narrowly defeated Laura Macauley by only 0.04 points.
In the 21 and under division, Yallingup rider Duke Nagtzaam made it to the final and placed fourth respectively against some tough competition.
Forecast: Thursday looks great with some NE winds early and a solid two metre west swell. Friday drops off to a 1.5m swell and light, variable winds. Another pulse of 2m west swell hits Saturday with some SSE winds and similar conditions on Sunday with a dropping swell.
Hotspot: Smiths Beach on Saturday.
Lacrosse is coming
THIS Saturday two teams will be travelling from Perth to Busselton to play a friendly game of lacrosse. Lacrosse is a team based extreme sport that when played at an elite level, is considered one of the fastest games on two feet, and is a little bit like hockey played in the air.
The Northern Thunder are the Under 15 West Australian representatives who recently placed second in the 2017 national lacrosse tournament. Don't be misguided by their age. These boys are strong, fast, and very talented. They face the Alkimos Pirates who are Perth's newest lacrosse club and Saturday’s game will be their inaugural hit out. They have some high calibre players and some members who have represented Australia on an international level.
The game kicks off at 10.30am at the Busselton hockey stadium.
