The Busselton Oral History Group have created a collection of excerpts from oral histories they began recording in 1985 and are about to launch a book Busselton Life in Snips & Snaps.
The book was the brainchild of Colleen Liston who proposed collating snippets and snapshots of Busselton, and was supported by Heather Hill who agreed to compile photos.
Members of the group put forward excerpts with Dr Liston writing about the region’s history highlighting more than 140 snippets she created.
Ms Hill sourced historical photos drawing on Margaret Dawson’s collection and contacts selecting 170 photos for the book which illustrated Busselton and the stories from people’s lives.
The purpose of the book is twofold. It is a historical and pictorial record of this region as well as a representation of Busselton. There are stories of the lives of the founders, early settlers and the development of the region.
The proceeds of the sale of the book will go towards furthering oral history in Busselton.
The book will be launched on November 16, with another public launch at the Busselton Library from 3pm on November 17 and will also be available at bookstores, the visitor’s centre and jetty shop.
