Community acupuncture is a cheaper alternative to seek acupuncture treatment and its hit Busselton thanks to one South West resident.
Qualified acupuncturist Bec Rickey said people could receive treatment in a group setting to make it affordable for people to be able to receive acupuncture often.
“Over the years I had been a bit frustrated with private practices because people need to come regularly for acupuncture and a lot of people could not afford to keep coming,” she said.
According to the website We The People, community acupuncture is part of a global ‘movement to create access to acupuncture by removing the barrier of cost from healing.’
Rather than receiving treatment in a private studio, Ms Rickey said people were in a room together so she could stagger her appointments.
“So they are all kind of sleeping in the same room – with needles in – having healing together,” she said.
“Acupuncture is used for all kinds of conditions, a lot of people come in for pain, injury, chronic pain because acupuncture is excellent for relieving pain quite immediately.
“From a Chinese medicine perspective you are balancing all the energy in the body and you can treat just about anything.”
Ms Rickey said common treatments were for fertility, digestive problems, lack of energy, stress, insomnia and menopause.
Ms Rickey will run her community acupuncture in Busselton on Mondays from 11am to 5pm, bookings are essential and cost $30 for up to an hour.
