Local swimming champions Ross Rann and Amy Kerr have been selected in the WA School Sport State Swimming Team.
The pair will head to Adelaide in December to compete at the 10th Pacific School Games.
The swimmers will represent WA and their schools, St Mary Mackillop College and Georgiana Molloy Anglican School.
Both Rann and Kerr are part of the state swimming team and have previously competed at a national level, but only Rann has raced at the Pacific School Games.
The Pacific School Games will be the first international meet for Kerr, who is still in primary school.
Selection to compete at the Games is a just reward for the committed athletes.
The pair are coached by Nick Ciffolilli at the Bunbury Swimming Club and make the journey to Bunbury up to eight times per week for training.
The swimmers will be joined in Adelaide by several of their Bunbury Swimming Club teammates, making the experience even more memorable.
Rann and Kerr said they were confident they can make an impact at the Games and were no strangers to excelling in competition.
Rann has won several state championship titles during his swimming career, while Kerr has claimed four breaststroke state championship titles during the past two years.
Both athletes thanked their club and schools for supporting their selection in the Pacific School Games Team.
They also thanked the Busselton community for getting behind their fundraising efforts and the City of Busselton for their continued support.
About The Pacific School Games
An international school sport championship, the Pacific School Games provides opportunities for around 4000 school-aged students to participate in 11 different sports at the highest level.
It is the flagship event of School Sport Australia, which provides educational opportunities for Australian and international students through the conducting of games in a range of sports.
Students aged between 10 and 19 years from at least 15 countries, including every Australian State and Territory, will compete in Adelaide from December 3 to 9, 2017.
Sporting disciplines are an integral part of the Pacific School Games, but they also offer an immense educational, multicultural and social benefit for participants.
The very first Pacific School Games were held in Brisbane in 1982 as a lead into the Commonwealth Games. They have since grown from 2187 participants in 1982 to record entries in the 2008 Canberra Games which saw 4888 participants take part.
