It has been a long wait, after a false start last season and a further 12-month delay the Busselton T20 Corporate Cricket competition is finally underway with four fast paced matches in the first two weeks.
Tuesday, November 14 will go down in history as the day the inaugural match was held and won by the Swingers.
Team captain Tye Denton won the toss and decided to bat leading by example.
Denton hit the competitions first ever four off the first ball bowled, things just improved from there, retiring on 26 after only 9 balls. This set the scene for a massive score.
McKay retired on 30, Sanford and Fraser on 29, Randell on 26, Howlett on 27 and Jack McKay on 11. With Ross Gibson taking the first catch and Jimmy Adrichem the first wicket, Tom Begley had the unfortunate record of the first batsman dismissed in this competition.
In reply, The Heavy Rollers started slow with only two coming off their first over with the bat. The tempo started to up with Wright finding the boundary often before retiring for 35 and Adrichem chipping in with a determined 14.
Titterton knew he had to go large and did so with several towering 6’s on his way to 28 before being retired. Keen got off the mark with a huge six but was dismissed soon after seven before Marwick blasted an unbeaten 27.
The Heavy Rollers finished their allotted 20 overs on 130 with McLean the pick of the Swingers’ bowlers with 2 for 8 from 2.
Game Two saw the Bin Chooks triumph over the Lemons, with the Lemons taking out the brightest team clothing in the competition.
The Bin Chooks started slowly batting first with four from the first over before the run rate increased, getting to 95 off the first 10 overs.
Russell Hartley retired on 28 before re-entering the arena to be dismissed on 41 while Miles Armstrong (59 not out with four 6’s) and Brandon Austin (43 not out and three 6’s) ensured the Bin Chooks made a massive 202 off their 20 overs.
Scott Elliot (2 for 15 off 2) and Paul Pornun (2 for 12 from 2) were the pick of the bowlers.
In reply, the Lemons started well with 10 from the first over.
Aaron Beckett (29 not out) and Ryan Wellings (30 not out) the highest scorers for the men in yellow on their way to 180 from their allotted overs.
Ben Payne qas the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 15 from 2 will also claim brotherly bragging rights over Tom Payne (1 for 17 from 2).
The Jack Of All Trades opened their season last week, however the Bin Chooks were too good. The Jacks made 112 all out before the Chooks made 5/115 in reply. The Swingers made it two from two defeating the Lemons 4/138 over 9/137.

There have been some great games already, with cricket played in the “runs for fun” format.
With spectators welcome to watch, this competition is entertaining so bring a picnic down to the Vasse Sporting Complex on a Tuesday and Wednesday nights to watch some cricket.
Next week’s games will see the Swingers take on the Bin Chooks on Tuesday while the Heavy Rollers will take on the Jack of All Trades on Wednesday.
