Salvation Army and Harley Owners Group team up for annual Bunbury Toy Run campaign

The Harley Owners Group South West WA Chapter and Salvation Army have teamed for the annual Bunbury Toy Run.

The group of riders left from Treendale Shopping Centre car park around 11am on Saturday, December 2.

They rode through Australind and Bunbury before reaching their destination at the Salvation Army Bunbury Corps’ Bussell Highway/Timperley Road premises at midday.

The riders delivered toys to the facility before gathering for a sausage sizzle and music from the Salvation Army brass band.

Bunnings Warehouse Bunbury and Australind provided a van for people to place toys into during the event.

This is the first year the Harley Owners Group South West WA Chapter has taken part.

Harley Owners Group South West WA Chapter director Wayne “Jacko” Jackson wanted to make it a family-friendly, enjoyable event.

He said the group saw it as an honour to help the Salvation Army support those in need during Christmas.

“We are really lucky to be a part of it and we’re wrapped, we took this up really quickly with no questions asked,” he said.

Mr Jackson said the group would be taking part in Toy Runs across the South West.

He said the event gave participants the opportunity to ride as a group.

Salvation Army Bunbury Corps Lieutenant Harriet Farquhar commended the Chapter for getting onboard this year.

She said the Toy Run was significant to the Salvos’ work in the community.

“We’ve got a number of crescendos as we come up to Christmas and the Toy Run is one of them, it’s one of those high points,” she said.

“The Harley Owners Group have taken over the run this year, this is their first year doing it, and we’re excited to work with them.

“This is the visible community support and so here we actually get to say thank you to the people that have donated.”
