They say home is where the heart is and that couldn’t be more true for William Tan and Justine Powell.
The Katanning couple had more than one reason to celebrate on December 1 when their new home in Busselton settled, with Mr Tan dropping to one knee and popping the question.
Ms Powell started the day just expecting to get keys to their new house in Broadwater but ended up with an engagement ring when her partner of three years surprised her with the romantic proposal.
Mr Tan said he had been planning the proposal since June, when the pair first decided to buy a home Busselton.
“I thought it would be a good time to do it,” he said.
“Busselton is a bit of a holiday spot for us and it is a special spot for Justine as it is somewhere her family have come to for many years.
“We love it here – it is for essentially a home away from home for us.”
Mr Tan said while they had discussed engagement, his bride-to-be had no idea it was coming.
“It was pretty overwhelming for her,” he said.
“She did get a shock and I had to remind her ‘you’ve got to answer’.”
Busselton Land and Estate Agency’s John Krikken sold the happy duo the property and helped with the surprise.
“I knew what was going on so I had champagne, glasses and flowers ready,” he said.
“I’ve never had anything like this happen in my 30 years in the business so it was quite special – I had no doubt that she would say yes.”
