Within three days of starting a Christmas crackdown targeting drugged drivers Busselton Police nabbed 14 grams of amphetamines from a driver who tested positive for drugs.
Busselton Police officer in charge senior sergeant Jason Van der Ende said they were now equipped to test drivers for drugs and their officers have been trained.
“It was good to get the drugs off the street,” he said.
New roadside drug testing kits were rolled out to the WA Police Force ahead of a festive season crackdown on drink and drug driving.
The new kits are more compact and portable and enable the screening process to be conducted from a roadside police vehicle.
Police Minister Michelle Roberts said police enforcement efforts were being ramped up over the festive period.
Ms Roberts said drug and booze bus operations would be deployed in metropolitan and regional WA to catch intoxicated drivers.
Both marked and unmarked traffic vehicles, along with covert police motorbikes will target speeding, seatbelt offences and drivers using their mobile phones.
So far this year, more than 8000 drivers have been charged with drink driving offences.
More than 2600 drivers have been caught driving with illicit drugs in their system.
Double demerit point penalties apply until January 7, 2018.
