Around 1800 people attended the 2018 Act-Belong-Commit Undalup Birak Festival, which was held in Margaret River on January 13.
Cultural art workshops had participants of all ages and dance workshops were well attended.
Undalup Association vice chairperson Rachelle Cousins said it was amazing to see families supporting the Act-Belong-Commit message and participating in the activities.
“It’s about the koolunga's (children) at the end of the day and it is good to be able to bring a community event to the Margaret River wine region and not promote alcohol, which seems to be unique these days,” she said.
“The event is about promoting the culture through sharing knowledge, history and the song-lines of the South West.”
Festival youth ambassador Shannon Hart Cole appeared on stage for the first time and was well received by the crowd, rapping and dancing alongside Michael Smith.
Billie Court and Apakatjah had everyone up and dancing all evening.
The festival had a surprise special appearance from John Butler and Mama Kin, who performed together on stage.
Undalup Association chairperson and event manager Iszaac Webb said this was the best festival the association had held so far.
“With so much support from our sponsors and the Margaret River community, we will definitely be back here again for more events and workshops,” he said.
“Without unity you don’t get community.”
