In the January 3 edition of the Mail, Troy Buswell’s mother spoke out to defend his character and a water pistol incident marred the Festival of Busselton Float Parade. Also in the headlines, the then Shire sought to stop rezoning that would enable a restaurant at Palmers Winery and historic guns were stolen from the Old Butter Factory Museum.
In Sport, local surfer Laura Macauley dominated and took out the under 16s at Tajs Small Fries. The community was gearing up for the Busselton Jetty Swim and Simone and Pauline Rudge made the news for entering as a couple.
