Organisers of the SAFE (Saving Animals from Euthanasia) Busselton Art Auction celebrated a great result last week, with the event raising $28,000 from the sale of 32 pieces of original artworks.
The works, all donated by 28 Australian artists, went under the hammer at The Studio Gallery & Bistro in Yallingup and were auctioned by local real estate agent Mark Murray from Stocker Preston Cowaramup.
SAFE spokesperson Lynda McKilligin said the event was the most successful fundraiser the group had ever held in the South West.
“There was something for everyone with jewellery items from Dinosaur Designs fetching upwards of $100 at the silent auction, to the top price of the night being $5,600, the successful bid by a local buyer for “Shadow Walk” by the very talented Laura Matthews,” she said.
“A special thankyou to Sandy Tippet for working her magic with the artists and for introducing a short artist biography prior to their works going under the hammer; to all the SAFE volunteers, Steve Tippet and his staff who assisted on the night and in the organisation of this fundraiser making it a great success.
“We are now a step closer to achieving our goal of a custom built ‘happy house’ for our rescued animals.”
