Margaret River Dairy Company now holds the Guinness World Records title for the largest cheese tasting event at a single location.
The dairy’s success was thanks to 560 cheese lovers who turned out in force to ensure the title success on February 25.
The turn out was more than double the population of Metricup, where the dairy is located.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Brian Sobel built the suspense before announcing Margaret River Dairy Company was ‘officially amazing’ and now the proud owner of a Guinness World Record.
Mr Sobel said he was impressed by the number of participants, and noted he had seen mass participation events in places like Sydney fail due to lack of support.
“The team efforts are great to witness when there’s been a lot of people involved both in the preparation for the event and the attempt itself,” he said.
To set the record, the company needed a minimum of 250 participants.
Margaret River Dairy Company head cheesemaker and production manager Thiago Bacellar said it was a huge buzz to see so many people tasting three of their cheeses in unison.
“We do cheese tasting for visitors to the region on a daily basis but to see the quantity we had was incredible. It shows you how many people truly love cheese,” he said.
