A petition to stop a roundabout from being installed on Causeway Road and Rosemary Drive has been handed into the City of Busselton.
Resident Midge Avery said nearby residents were concerned about the noise and extra traffic.
Ms Avery said Rosemary Drive was a quiet residential area with many elderly people who had lived there a longtime and it would be ridiculous to make the road a thoroughfare for traffic.
It is believed around 40 residents who live near Rosemary Drive have signed the petition.
The works are part of the proposed Eastern Link development which would connect Causeway Road to Peel Terrace via a bridge over the Vasse River.
The road would provide a second access point in and out of Busselton’s town centre with the purpose of easing traffic congestion by creating a second access point.
The Eastern Link has faced opposition from parts of the community with former mayor Ian Stubbs labelling the proposed road “environmental vandalism.”
The road works would require the removal of seven mature peppermint trees from the Vasse River foreshore which is home to the critically endangered western ringtail possums.
Earlier this week, City of Busselton mayor Grant Henley told the Mail that the city would investigate options to replant as many of the mature peppermint trees as possible.
