Scholarships are available for South West yoga teachers to attend April’s Yoga for Pain Training event in Busselton.
Not-for-profit organisation GP down south is offering 12 scholarships for the training, which aims to equip health care providers and yoga teachers in yoga-based pain management.
GP down south program coordinator Nicola Hilyard said chronic pain was a big problem in the region.
“With our aging population, and increase in chronic health issues, it’s set to get worse,” she said.
“People with persistent pain related to chronic conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia or other musculoskeletal conditions, have so few options outside our cities.
“It’s exciting to launch this innovative, community-based approach here in the South West.”
The training will be led by Rachael West from Yoga for Pain Care Australia and physiotherapist Jane Leslie, who has expertise in yoga and arthritis.
Ms West said the region was an obvious choice for the workshop.
“A study we did recently showed yoga teachers in the South West are already doing good work with people who are less physically capable,” she said.
“This training will help them step up professionally, be recognised for their specialist skills, and allow them to reach more students.”
Scholarship applications close on March 15, visit yogaforpaincare.com/downsouth to apply.
Yoga for Pain Training will be held from April 6 to 10.
