The 15th Gail Kearney Memorial Busselton Hospice Golf Day will tee off next Friday, March 23 to raise money for the Busselton Hospice Care Inc.
Busselton Hospice Care Inc is a community group funded through the generosity of donations and fundraising activities of the community.
The group engage the community to walk along side and care for the dying and support those receiving palliative care.
Busselton Hospice Care Inc manager Judy Waterman said more than 400 volunteers from the community have provided end of life and bereavement support to people and families for over 15 years.
“We are in a new phase and adding more to our existing volunteer programs to support our palliative care community,” she said.
“Currently, we offer a peer support bereavement service and a complementary therapy program for individuals and their care givers and are planning for a home volunteer visiting and carer support program.”
One-hundred volunteers provide these services to families in the hospice unit at the Busselton Health Campus, the bereavement and complementary therapy programs are aslo run at the organisation’s Geographe Bay Centre on Craig Street.
“The Geographe Bay Centre is our home and where we manage our programs,” Ms Waterman said.
The Gail Kearney Memorial Busselton Hospice Golf Day has raised more than $440,000 for Busselton Hospice Care Inc, with last year’s event raising $36,000 the group are well on their way to reaching half-a-million dollars.
Registrations to play in the tournament are still open and can be made to Mike Kearney on 0407 521 156, the entry fee is $500 for teams of four and includes lunch and a light meal at the end of the event.
Raffles and auctions will also be held at the end of the tournament.
