When Ash Grunwald plays in the South West this week, it could very well be his last pub tour.
While he doesn’t want to pull a ‘John Farnham’, Grunwald told the Mail, from his home in Bali, he was planning on changing things up.
“If I had to do it all again, I would,” he said.
“At the start when I was really bright-eyed and bushy-tailed I worked so hard and luckily, it gets easier as you go, because you can’t maintain that level forever, I was driving myself, touring, selling my own merch and everything.
“I wouldn’t say I’m slowing down, the last couple of years I’ve been super busy gigging at heaps of events, but over East I’ve just been doing a lot of events and that’s where I see myself going forward.”
For the past 15 years, Grunwald has wowed audiences with his frenzied shows, and unique blend of roots, beats and grooves to become one of Australia’s most loved bluesmen.
Despite years of touring, the 41-year-old said he was still as enthused about music as ever.
“For me musically speaking, I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to pick up the guitar,” he said.
“I’m really musically inspired these days, it could be a positive mid-life crisis vibe, but I feel like going I’m going through a creative burst.
Grunwald said he had taken it back to basics and it had paid off.
“I’ve just been practising lots and it has been super fun,” he said.
“If you ever find yourself in a rut, whether it is your passions, work, or relationships, any single thing, the best thing to do is learn something new and actively try to improve.
“I feel like I’m 15 again, I looked at guitar in corner and calls me, and I think I’ll just sneak five minutes in.
Ash Grunwald will play Settlers Tavern, Margaret River, Thursday, March 22 and The Prince of Wales Hotel, Bunbury, Saturday, March 24.
Tickets are available from Oztix.
