2018 Country Pennants
After making a come back to Country Pennants in Moora in 2016 followed by a successful campaign again in Kalgoorlie in 2017, Busselton Swimming Club came home from Country Pennants in Mandurah victorious in 2018, winning their division by 33 points and taking home the trophy for the most relay points.
There were a swag of medals, personal bests, top six meet performers, records and memories of a weekend of fun, competition and great sportsmanship.
Finishing first in their division, the team of 24 swimmers competed in 65 events.
They collected a total of 24 personal best swims, 43 individual medals, eight relay medals out of 10 relays swum and two meet records in their division.
Lauren McGregor, Lucinda Jones, Maddy Johnston-Walker, Zoe Butler and Ella Butler were all named in the top six performers at the meet in various events, with sisters Ella and Zoe claiming a meet record in the 50-metre butterfly and 100m backstroke respectively.
Junior Lily O’Meara also claimed a meet record in the 50m breast stroke.
The club’s junior swimmers all excelled themselves claiming numerous medals and personal best times.
Many members of the team competed outside of their age group, swimming strongly for their team in the relays which was integral in clinching victory in their division this year.
Great swimming by the club’s head coach Andrew Sexton saw him claim gold in all four of his 50 metre events, as well as swimming in both the open medley and freestyle relays.
There were many stand out performances on the weekend with a lot of fun and the swimmers are already talking about next year’s event which will be held in Karratha.
