Surf forecasters have been tracking cyclone Marcus from the Kimberley and there have been calls it will make it’s way down the coast this week.
The last time we had a cyclone swell from the north west direction was back in 2011 courtesy of cyclone Bianca.
The previous super swell was a rare beast that turned the whole of cape into a surf spectacle with huge barrels.
The reason a north-west swell is so rare is because we only ever get south-west swell from a similar direction and the surf breaks are always the same.
When the swell is from the north-west it turns every break on it’s head and changes the angle the wave breaks.
The epic cyclone swell we’ve had in the past has been while the water has been very warm but this year seems to be cooler; so will it make it down the coast?
It’s hard to predict what a cyclone is going to do, but a lot of riders are wishing that it does happen again because Yallingup left turns into a heaving barrel and Wyadup beach turns into a sand point break.
Excitement levels are at an all time high, but we will just have to wait until the weekend to see what happens.
State Bodyboarding Title
The first Bodyboarding State Title is being held this Friday to Sunday in Margaret River and the event runs in conjunction with an Australian Tour event.
The states best competitors will be looking forward to busting out some moves at Gas Bay and the forecast is looking great.
