Busselton’s Ice Queen Kylie Hutt did it, she won her Australian National Boxing Federation welterweight fight and brought home the national title belt.
Hutt took on her WA rival Sarah Dwyer in an eight round bout at Thunderdome 24 held at Perth’s Metro City on Friday, March 16.
She said it felt amazing to be crowned the national champion after all the hard work and training she put in before the fight.
“It is indescribable it is almost surreal, I put in all the effort before the fight and I got there finally,” she said.
During the fight, Hutt said she felt empowered, was the stronger, faster opponent and full of confidence in the ring.
“The fight was really good, it was one of the best fights I have ever had, Dwyer put up a good fight.
“She stepped up and had improved [since we last met], it was quite a good slug fest.
“I thought I was going to cry I was so proud of myself and my team, it was an overwhelming experience to make my coaches proud and I kept thinking of my children and what we have been through as a family.”
Hutt and Dwyer have met in the ring before, twice they have battled it out for the WA title belt which Hutt claimed in both meets after knocking out her opponent.
“We went the whole distance this time and it was up to a decision, I thought I had won five rounds to three, and the three could have gone either way,” Hutt said.
“We went in with a game plan and that changed after round two, once the game plan changed I was very dominant from then on out.”
Hutt said her coaches were supportive and calm throughout the bout giving her clear instructions so she knew exactly what to do.
“I was so focused I could not hear any cheering, nothing from the crowd, all I could think was just go for it,” she said.
Before the fight Hutt was training twice a day to build up her fitness and skills, she restricted her diet to a kilogram of yogurt with fruit a day plus crackers with avocado and tomato.
“My coaches would laugh because we would be sparring and they would say one more round, I would say I can’t, we would do it and they would say, one more round – you will hate us now but love us later.
“They pushed me past breaking point.”
After the fight Hutt said she celebrated with Italian pasta, chocolate, ice-cream, meat and Subway.
Hutt is now hoping to drop weight categories, she has been fighting above her weight class and is looking for a sponsor to help her achieve her next goal.
“With the guidance of my coaches, the right nutrition and training from Denning Boxing Gym I think it should be easy enough.”
