A team of young scientists from Cape Naturaliste College have taken out the 2018 Synergy Schools Solar Challenge’s South West competition.
The challenge involves students building small solar powered cars and racing their creations against other schools.
Mikayla Hill, Abbie Knott, Henry Lightfoot, and Daniel Sissoev were successful with their ‘cannon’ race car at the event on March 20, held at Newton Moore Senior High School.
In the lead up to the challenge, Cape Naturaliste College’s Year 8 science students designed and raced solar cars in their own contest.
Science teacher Clodagh Guildea said the challenge tied in with the college’s physics studies.
”We explored energy transformations, the use of renewable and non-renewable energy resources, and how we might transition to a more sustainable energy future,” she said.
