A new Sea Shepherd marine debris team will conduct monthly beach clean-ups in the Margaret River region.
The group represents the Sea Shepherd Marine Debris Campaign, which was formed in response to the world’s growing problem with all forms of rubbish impacting the marine environment.
Campaigners Peta Fysh and Katherine Olszewski were recently inducted as Sea Shepherd volunteers and have taken on the role as marine debris coordinators in the region.
The group’s first clean-up in March at Canal Rocks resulted in 64 kilograms of rubbish being collected in two hours.
Items included glass, cigarette butts, plastic food packaging, plastic straws, cups, plates and cutlery.
The group’s next clean-up will take place at Meelup Beach on April 22 from 9am to 11am.
